EquStem™ announces the opening of its laboratory for the noninvasive collection, processing and storage of equine stem cells.

HACKENSACK, NJ - In the new era of medical advancements with stem cells, EquStem™, a leading equine stem cell collection, processing and storage company, has launched a noninvasive procedure for collecting stem cells from horses. The process is simple and safe, extracting regenerative adult stem cells from the umbilical cord on foaling day to be stored for future medical and therapeutic use.

Stem cell research has turned into a modern-day phenomenon and has been attributed to the recovery of many horses with career threatening injuries. Collecting and storing stem cells is a practice that allows for potential healing of future injuries to soft tissue, such as tendons, ligaments and joints. These stem cells which are collected have the ability to differentiate into cell lines that can be used to regenerate damaged soft tissue.

“EquStem is pleased to announce that it has opened its laboratories and is currently processing and storing stem cells for the newest crop of foals in 2010.  We look forward to providing the most technically effective stem cell collection and storage methods for use by the equine community.  This technology will revolutionize equine and veterinary care and we are excited to be at the forefront of this development,” said Dr. Jerry Grossman, President of EquStem.

The EquStem staff trains the horse caretaker on how to retrieve the stem cells on foaling day, then processes, tests, stores prepares and supplies the regenerative adult stem cells for medical usage in the event of injury. Thousands of horses have already been treated with adult stem cells through numerous successful transplants documented around the world. According to EquineSite.com, 78% of sport horses treated with adult stem cells have returned to their previous level of performance, and 69% of racehorses treated have returned to make multiple starts in races.

EquStem is headquartered in Hackensack, NJ with laboratories in Allendale, NJ.  EquStem is a proud marketing partner and member of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA).
