V-Care Biomedical and EquStem join forces to offer American and European veterinary markets a range of regenerative medicine products and stem cell services.

Leading regenerative medicine companies, V-Care Biomedical and EquStem, are pleased to announce their collaboration to supply the American and European veterinary markets with a unique and novel range of regenerative medicine products and stem cells services.

The range of products and services will include the new Equine Platelet Therapy Enrichment™(E-PET™) device developed by Pall Corporation. E-PET is the new improved version of Purecell fPRP device previously known to the industry.

EquStem is the first commercial equine umbilical cord blood derived stem cell bank in the United States.  Based in Hackensack, NJ with laboratories in Allendale, NJ, EquStem will now offer an autologus stem cell service for veterinarians treating horses with musculoskeletal injuries. As reported by leading veterinary academics, stem cell treatment for equine tendon injuries have an 82% prognosis of return to performance and staying injury free for 3 years. Together with V-Care Biomedical, Europe’s leading provider of stem cell service with laboratories in Leipzig, Germany, both companies will be providing training days on the technology and client information talks in both the U.S. and Europe over the next few months.

“The collaboration of EquStem and V-Care Biomedical brings together the collective knowledge and capability of both companies to offer the American and European markets the best possible service,” says V-Care Biomedical Chief Operating Officer Greg McGarrell.

“V-Care Biomedical is intent on working closely with EquStem developing the therapeutic uses of biological products such as stem cells and platelet derived growth factors. One area in particular we will be examining is the use of the E-PET Platelet Rich Plasma product in joint medication to enable anabolic stimulation to help repair damaged tissue”

There has been a steady growth in the application of autologus platelets in orthopaedic and reconstructive surgery, attesting to its safety. That work paved the way for its use in the treatment of tendinitis in humans and horses. Pall’s E-PET system allows for platelets to be enriched from a peripheral blood sample within 15 minutes from start-to-stop, in a completely disposable closed system without any capital expense on laboratory equipment.

Dr. Jerry Grossman, President and CEO of EquStem says: “Tendon and ligaments injuries are one of the most debilitating and significant causes for the departure of top performance horses from competition. Stem Cell and PRP therapies are proven by both scientific findings and anecdotal evidence to provide the best possible chance for these equines, not only to return to their peak performance, but to stay there.”

In addition recent developments involving the use of stem cells and PRP in joints and wound management (in particular treating intra-synovial soft tissue injuries in the stifle, tarsus, metacarpophalangeal and metatarsophalangeal joints) are producing exciting results principal to the future of treatments of these injuries.

Costs to the vet and subsequently the owner have significantly decreased recently opening up the gold standard these therapies represent to a much wider audience than before.
