Palm Beach Equine Clinic's reproduction center teams with EquStem

HACKENSACK, NJ – Palm Beach Equine Clinic's reproduction center has teamed up with EquStem to offer the Florida equine industry the latest in stem cell technologies. This partnership will enable horse owners and breeders in Florida to utilize regenerative stem cell technology for tendon, ligament, and joint injuries. Through this advancement in science, many horses will be able to return from injuries that would otherwise result in an end to their performance careers. Additionally, recovery time will be drastically reduced for many. The Florida horse community now has easy access to this cutting edge technology in their own backyard.

Palm Beach Equine Clinic veterinarian Dr. Bob Smith, who is regarded as one of the top reproduction veterinarians in the country, has spent the past 30 years in equine reproduction medicine, and continues to stay on the cutting edge with new ideas and technology. During the collection process at birth, Dr. Smith pulls adult stem cells from the umbilical cord blood – the richest source – and sends it to the EquStem laboratory for processing and storage. Dr. Smith refers to these stem cells as the "repair kit" for horses.

EquStem is the first commercial equine stem cell bank in the nation, where stem cells are collected, processed, and frozen for future use. Dr. Smith notes that owners who take advantage of collecting their horse's stem cells at the birth will have this "repair kit" through out the horse's life. Stem cell treatment has proven to be effective, and the advancements continue to reach new levels. "EquStem is pleased to be associated with a respected institution such as the Palm Beach Equine Clinic. We look forward to providing the most revolutionary and effective stem cell collection and storage methods for the equine community. We thoroughly believe that the storage of stem cells will increase the value of equine athletes because they will have a better opportunity to recover from injuries at a higher rate and in less time," said Dr. Jerrold Grossman, President of EquStem.
